2013-12-12xen-netback: napi: fix abuse of budgetPaul Durrant
netback seems to be somewhat confused about the napi budget parameter. The parameter is supposed to limit the number of skbs processed in each poll, but netback has this confused with grant operations. This patch fixes that, properly limiting the work done in each poll. Note that this limit makes sure we do not process any more data from the shared ring than we intend to pass back from the poll. This is important to prevent tx_queue potentially growing without bound. If the payload is larger than the "low limit" and the backing store allocation fails, then big_key_instantiate() doesn't clear the payload pointers in the key, assuming them to have been previously cleared - but only one of them is. Unfortunately, the garbage collector still calls big_key_destroy() when sees one of the pointers with a weird value in it (and not NULL) which it then tries to clean up. - Three patches to fix the keyring type: * A patch to fix the hash function to correctly divide keyrings off from keys in the topology of the tree inside the associative array. This is only a problem if searching through nested keyrings - and only if the hash function incorrectly puts the a keyring outside of the 0 branch of the root node. * A patch to fix keyrings' use of the associative array. The __key_link_begin() function initially passes a NULL key pointer to assoc_array_insert() on the basis that it's holding a place in the tree whilst it does more allocation and stuff. This is only a problem when a node contains 16 keys that match at that level and we want to add an also matching 17th. This should easily be manufactured with a keyring full of keyrings (without chucking any other sort of key into the mix) - except for (a) above which makes it on average adding the 65th keyring. * A patch to fix searching down through nested keyrings, where any keyring in the set has more than 16 keyrings and none of the first keyrings we look through has a match (before the tree iteration needs to step to a more distal node). 2013-12-12futex: move user address verification up to common codeLinus Torvalds
When debugging the read-only hugepage case, I was confused by the fact that get_futex_key() did an access_ok() only for the non-shared futex case, since the user address checking really isn't in any way specific to the private key handling. Now, it turns out that the shared key handling does effectively do the equivalent checks inside get_user_pages_fast() (it doesn't actually check the address range on x86, but does check the page protections for being a user page). So it wasn't actually a bug, but the fact that we treat the address differently for private and shared futexes threw me for a loop. Just move the check up, so that it gets done for both cases. Also, use the 'rw' parameter for the type, even if it doesn't actually matter any more (it's a historical artifact of the old racy i386 "page faults from kernel space don't check write protections"). 2013-12-12Btrfs: don't miss skinny extent items on delayed ref head contentionFilipe David Borba Manana
Currently extent-tree.c:btrfs_lookup_extent_info() can miss the lookup of skinny extent items. This can happen when the execution flow is the following: * We do an extent tree lookup and fail to find a skinny extent item; * As a result, we attempt to see if a non-skinny extent item exists, either by looking at previous item in the leaf or by doing another full extent tree search; * We have a transaction and then we check for a matching delayed ref head in the transaction's delayed refs rbtree; * We find such delayed ref head and then we try to lock it with a call to mutex_trylock(); * The lock was contended so we jump to the label "again", which repeats the extent tree search but for a non-skinny extent item, because we set previously metadata variable to 0 and the search key to look for a non-skinny extent-item; * After the jump (and after releasing the transaction's delayed refs lock), a skinny extent item might have been added to the extent tree but we will miss it because metadata is set to 0 and the search key is set for a non-skinny extent-item. The fix here is to not reset metadata to 0 and to jump to the initial search key setup if the delayed ref head is contended, instead of jumping directly to the extent tree search label ("again"). This issue was found while investigating the issue reported at Bugzilla 64961. David Sterba suspected this function was missing extent items, and that this could be caused by the last change to this function, which was made in the following patch: [PATCH] Btrfs: optimize btrfs_lookup_extent_info() (commit 74be9510876a66ad9826613ac8a526d26f9e7f01) But in fact this issue already existed before, because after failing to find a skinny extent item, the code set the search key for a non-skinny extent item, and on contention of a matching delayed ref head it would not search the extent tree for a skinny extent item anymore. The W83L786NG stores the fan speed on 4 bits while the sysfs interface uses a 0-255 range. Thus the driver should scale the user input down to map it to the device range, and scale up the value read from the device before presenting it to the user. Erratum 71 of PXA270M Processor Family Specification Update (April 19, 2010) explains that watchdog reset time is just 8us insead of 10ms in EMTS. If SDRAM is not reset, it causes memory bus congestion and the device hangs. We put SDRAM in selfresh mode before watchdog reset, removing potential freezes. Without this patch PXA270-based ICP DAS LP-8x4x hangs after up to 40 reboots. With this patch it has successfully rebooted 500 times. 2013-12-11xen-netback: make sure skb linear area covers checksum fieldPaul Durrant
skb_partial_csum_set requires that the linear area of the skb covers the checksum field. The checksum setup code in netback was only doing that pullup in the case when the pseudo header checksum was being recalculated though. This patch makes that pullup unconditional. (I pullup the whole transport header just for simplicity; the requirement is only for the check field but in the case of UDP this is the last field in the header and in the case of TCP it's the last but one). The lack of pullup manifested as failures running Microsoft HCK network tests on a pair of Windows 8 VMs and it has been verified that this patch fixes the problem. Some I2C bus drivers do not allow zero-length data transfers which are required to start a measurement with the HIH6130/1 sensor. 2013-12-11net: smc91x: Fix device tree based configuration so it's usableTony Lindgren
Commit 89ce376c6bdc (drivers/net: Use of_match_ptr() macro in smc91x.c) added minimal device tree support to smc91x, but it's not working on many platforms because of the lack of some key configuration bits. Fix the issue by parsing the necessary configuration like the smc911x driver is doing. As most smc91x users seem to use 16-bit access, let's default to that if no reg-io-width is specified. macvtap_put_user() never return a value grater than iov length, this in fact bypasses the truncated checking in macvtap_recvmsg(). Commit 6680ec68eff47d36f67b4351bc9836fd6cba9532 (tuntap: hardware vlan tx support) breaks the truncated packet signal by nev return a length greater than iov length in tun_put_user(). This patch fixes by always return the length of packet plus possible vlan header. Caller can detect the truncated packet by comparing the return value and the size of io length. 2013-12-11net: sched: tbf: fix the calculation of max_sizeYang Yingliang
Current max_size is caluated from rate table. Now, the rate table has been replaced and it's wrong to caculate max_size based on this rate table. It can lead wrong calculation of max_size. The burst in kernel may be lower than user asked, because burst may gets some loss when transform it to buffer(E.g. "burst 40kb rate 30mbit/s") and it seems we cannot avoid this loss. Burst's value(max_size) based on rate table may be equal user asked. If a packet's length is max_size, this packet will be stalled in tbf_dequeue() because its length is above the burst in kernel so that it cannot get enough tokens. The max_size guards against enqueuing packet sizes above q->buffer "time" in tbf_enqueue(). To make consistent with the calculation of tokens, this patch add a helper psched_ns_t2l() to calculate burst(max_size) directly to fix this problem. After this fix, we can support to using 64bit rates to calculate burst as well. Renesas R-Car development boards use KSZ8041RNLI PHY which for some reason has ID of 0x00221537 that is not documented for KSZ8041-family PHYs and does not match the documented ID of 0x0022151x (where 'x' is the revision). We have to add the new #define PHY_ID_* and new ksphy_driver[] entry, almost the same as KSZ8041 one, differing only in the 'phy_id' and 'name' fields. 2013-12-10misc: mic: bug fix for interrupt acknowledgement in MSI/INTx case.Dasaratharaman Chandramouli
The interrupt handler (mic_interrupt), called in the MSI/INTx mode, writes to the interrupt sources register to acknowledge the interrupt and then calls the corresponding callback handlers to handle the same. These callback handlers acknowledge the interrupts again leading to missed interrupts. This patch fixes the issue by removing the interrupt acknowlegment code from the callback handlers. 2013-12-10parport: parport_pc: remove double PCI ID for NetMosSebastian Andrzej Siewior
In commit 85747f ("PATCH] parport: add NetMOS 9805 support") Max added the PCI ID for NetMOS 9805 based on a Debian bug report from 2k4 which was at the v2.4.26 time frame. The patch made into 2.6.14. Shortly before that patch akpm merged commit 296d3c783b ("[PATCH] Support NetMOS based PCI cards providing serial and parallel ports") which made into v2.6.9-rc1. Now we have two different entries for the same PCI id. I have here the NetMos 9805 which claims to support SPP/EPP/ECP mode. This patch takes Max's entry for titan_1284p1 (base != -1 specifies the ioport for ECP mode) and replaces akpm's entry for netmos_9805 which specified -1 (=none). Both share the same PCI-ID (my card has subsystem 0x1000 / 0x0020 so it should match PCI_ANY). While here I also drop the entry for titan_1284p2 which is the same as netmos_9815. Since commit 7106b4e3 ("8250: Oxford Semiconductor Devices") the debug print of the device id does no longer match the real device if it is located in the "enum" behind oxsemi_pcie_pport. The reason is that the code assumes that each id contains one entry in the PCI table. The fix is to lookup the currently used id from the id-> parameter. 2013-12-11ALSA: hda - Add static DAC/pin mapping for AD1986A codecTakashi Iwai
AD1986A codec is a pretty old codec and has really many hidden restrictions. One of such is that each DAC is dedicated to certain pin although there are possible connections. Currently, the generic parser tries to assign individual DACs as much as possible, and this lead to two bad situations: connections where the sound actually doesn't work, and connections conflicting other channels. We may fix this by trying to find the best connections more harder, but as of now, it's easier to give some hints for paired DAC/pin connections and honor them if available, since such a hint is needed only for specific codecs (right now only AD1986A, and there will be unlikely any others in future).
