2013-08-07perf tools: Add 'S' event/group modifier to read sample valueJiri Olsa
Adding 'S' event/group modifier to specify that the event value/s are read by PERF_SAMPLE_READ sample type processing, instead of the period value offered by lower layers. There's additional behaviour change for 'S' modifier being specified on event group: Currently all the events within a group makes samples. If user now specifies 'S' within group modifier, only the leader will trigger samples. The rest of events in the group will have sampling disabled. And same as for single events, values of all events within the group (including leader) are read by PERF_SAMPLE_READ sample type processing. Following example will create event group with cycles and cache-misses events, setting the cycles as group leader and the only event to actually sample. Both cycles and cache-misses event period values are read by PERF_SAMPLE_READ sample type processing with PERF_FORMAT_GROUP read format. 2013-08-07perf evsel: Add PERF_SAMPLE_READ sample related processingJiri Olsa
For sample with sample type PERF_SAMPLE_READ the period value is stored in the 'struct sample_read'. Moreover if the read format has PERF_FORMAT_GROUP, the 'struct sample_read' contains period values for all events in the group (for which the sample's event is a leader). We deliver separated samples for all the values contained within the 'struct sample_read'. We need to fail the event ID retrieval in case both following conditions are true: - we are on kernel with no PERF_EVENT_IOC_ID support - PERF_FORMAT_GROUP read format is set The PERF_FORMAT_GROUP read format bit is the killer for retrieving event ID out of the read syscall, because we have no guarantee of the event placement within leader kernel sibling list. Changing the way we retrieve the event ID. Instead of parsing out the ID out of the read data, using the PERF_EVENT_IOC_ID ioctl. Keeping the old way in place to support kernels without PERF_EVENT_IOC_ID ioctl support. This will be useful for retrieving the event ID for events with PERF_FORMAT_GROUP read format set, where it's impossible to get correct event id out of the read call data. 2013-08-07perf: Do not get values from disabled counters in group format readJiri Olsa
It's possible some of the counters in the group could be disabled when sampling member of the event group is reading the rest via PERF_SAMPLE_READ sample type processing. Disabled counters could then produce wrong numbers. Fixing that by reading only enabled counters for PERF_SAMPLE_READ sample type processing. 2013-08-07perf: Add PERF_EVENT_IOC_ID ioctl to return event IDJiri Olsa
The only way to get the event ID is by reading the event fd, followed by parsing the ID value out of the returned data. While this is ok for current read format used by perf tool, it is not ok when we use PERF_FORMAT_GROUP format. With this format the data are returned for the whole group and there's no way to find out what ID belongs to our fd (if we are not group leader event). Adding a simple ioctl that returns event primary ID for given fd. 2013-08-07cpufreq: loongson2: fix regression related to clock managementAaro Koskinen
Commit 42913c799 (MIPS: Loongson2: Use clk API instead of direct dereferences) broke the cpufreq functionality on Loongson2 boards: clk_set_rate() is called before the CPU frequency table is initialized, and therefore will always fail. Fix by moving the clk_set_rate() after the table initialization. Tested on Lemote FuLoong mini-PC. 2013-08-07ACPI / processor: move try_offline_node() after acpi_unmap_lsapic()Yasuaki Ishimatsu
try_offline_node() checks that all CPUs associated with the given node have been removed by using cpu_present_bits. If all cpus related to that node have been removed, try_offline_node() clears the node information. However, try_offline_node() called from acpi_processor_remove() never clears the node information. For disabling cpu_present_bits, acpi_unmap_lsapic() needs be called. Yet, acpi_unmap_lsapic() is called after try_offline_node() has run. So when try_offline_node() runs, the CPU's cpu_present_bits is always set. Fix the issue by moving try_offline_node() after acpi_unmap_lsapic(). The problem fixed here was uncovered by commit cecdb19 "ACPI / scan: Change the implementation of acpi_bus_trim()". The SDVO code tries to compare the encoder's and crtc's idea of the pixel_multiplier. 2013-08-07drm/i915: avoid brightness overflow when doing scaleAaron Lu
Some card's max brightness level is pretty large, e.g. on Acer Aspire 4732Z, the max level is 989910. If user space set a large enough level then the current scale done in intel_panel_set_backlight will cause an integer overflow and the scaled level will be mistakenly small, leaving user with an almost black screen. 2013-08-07drm/i915: update last_vblank when disabling the power wellPaulo Zanoni
The DRM layer keeps track of our vblanks and it assumes our vblank counters only go back to zero when they overflow. The problem is that when we disable the power well our counters also go to zero, but it doesn't mean they did overflow. So on this patch we grab the lock and update last_vblank so the DRM layer won't think our counters overflowed. Apparently Bspec is wrong in this case here even for gm45. Note that Bspec is horribly misguided on i965g/gm, so we don't have any other data points besides that it seems to make machines work better. With this changes all the bits in PORT_HOTPLUG_STAT for the digital ports are ordered the same way. This seems to agree with what register dumps from the hpd storm handling code shows, where the LIVE bit and the short/long pulse STATUS bits light up at the same time with this enumeration (but no with the one from Bspec). Also tested on my gm45 which has two DP+ ports, and everything seems to still work as expected. Some of my configs I test with have CONFIG_A11Y_BRAILLE_CONSOLE set. When I started testing against v3.11-rc4 my console went bonkers. Using ktest to bisect the issue, it came down to: commit bbeddf52a "printk: move braille console support into separate braille.[ch] files" Looking into the patch I found the problem. It's with the return of braille_register_console(). As anything other than NULL is considered a failure. But for those of us that have CONFIG_A11Y_BRAILLE_CONSOLE set but do not define a "brl" or "brl=" on the command line, we still may want a console that those with sight can still use. Return NULL (success) if "brl" or "brl=" is not on the console line. This commit even has the test-case to prove that the tracee can be killed by SIGTRAP if the debugger does not remove the breakpoints before PTRACE_DETACH. However, this is exactly what wineserver deliberately does, set_thread_context() calls PTRACE_ATTACH + PTRACE_DETACH just for PTRACE_POKEUSER(DR*) in between. So we should revert this fix and document that PTRACE_DETACH should keep the breakpoints. unshare_userns(new_cred) does *new_cred = prepare_creds() before create_user_ns() which can fail. However, the caller expects that it doesn't need to take care of new_cred if unshare_userns() fails. We could change the single caller, sys_unshare(), but I think it would be more clean to avoid the side effects on failure, so with this patch unshare_userns() does put_cred() itself and initializes *new_cred only if create_user_ns() succeeeds. The physical_node_id_bitmap in struct acpi_device is only used for looking up the first currently unused dependent phyiscal node ID by acpi_bind_one(). It is not really necessary, however, because acpi_bind_one() walks the entire physical_node_list of the given device object for sanity checking anyway and if that list is always sorted by node_id, it is straightforward to find the first gap between the currently used node IDs and use that number as the ID of the new list node. This also removes the artificial limit of the maximum number of dependent physical devices per ACPI device object, which now depends only on the capacity of unsigend int. As a result, it fixes a regression introduced by commit e2ff394 (ACPI / memhotplug: Bind removable memory blocks to ACPI device nodes) that caused acpi_memory_enable_device() to fail when the number of 128 MB blocks within one removable memory module was greater than 32.
