2025-01-09spi: mxic: Support per spi-mem operation frequency switchesMiquel Raynal
Every ->exec_op() call correctly configures the spi bus speed to the maximum allowed frequency for the memory using the constant spi default parameter. Since we can now have per-operation constraints, let's use the value that comes from the spi-mem operation structure instead. In case there is no specific limitation for this operation, the default spi device value will be given anyway. The per-operation frequency capability is thus advertised to the spi-mem core. 'struct nand_ecc_engine_ops' are not modified in these drivers. Constifying this structure moves some data to a read-only section, so increases overall security, especially when the structure holds some function pointers. Update the prototype of mxic_ecc_get_pipelined_ops() accordingly. 2024-10-02spi: mxic: Add support for swapping byteAlvinZhou
Some SPI-NOR flash swap the bytes on a 16-bit boundary when configured in Octal DTR mode. It means data format D0 D1 D2 D3 would be swapped to D1 D0 D3 D2. So that whether controller support swapping bytes should be checked before enable Octal DTR mode. Add swap byte support on a 16-bit boundary when configured in Octal DTR mode for Macronix xSPI host controller driver. According dtr_swab in operation to enable/disable Macronix xSPI host controller swap byte feature. To make sure swap byte feature is working well, program data in 1S-1S-1S mode then read back and compare read data in 8D-8D-8D mode. This feature have been validated on byte-swap flash and non-byte-swap flash. Macronix xSPI host controller bit "HC_CFG_DATA_PASS" determine the byte swap feature disabled/enabled and swap byte feature is working on 8D-8D-8D mode only. 2024-09-30spi: Switch back to struct platform_driver::remove()Uwe Kleine-König
After commit 0edb555a65d1 ("platform: Make platform_driver::remove() return void") .remove() is (again) the right callback to implement for platform drivers. Convert all platform drivers below drivers/spi to use .remove(), with the eventual goal to drop struct platform_driver::remove_new(). As .remove() and .remove_new() have the same prototypes, conversion is done by just changing the structure member name in the driver initializer. The change for the spi-npcm-fiu stands out in the diffstat because the inconsistent formatting style of the platform_driver initializer is fixed to match the other struct initializer in the file. 2024-05-27spi: mxic: differentiate between unsupported and invalid requestsMiquel Raynal
If the request is out of range, returning -EINVAL seems sensible. However if there is no direct mapping available (which is a possible case), no direct mapping will ever be allowed, hence -EOPNOTSUP is probably more relevant in this case. >From a caller (and reviewer) point of view, distinguising between the two may be helpful because somehow one can be "fixed" while the other will always be refused no matter how hard we try. As part of a wider work to bring spi-nand continuous reads, it was useful to easily catch the upper limit direct mapping boundaries for each controller, with the idea of enlarging this area from a page to an eraseblock, without risking too many regressions. 2023-03-11spi: Replace all spi->chip_select and spi->cs_gpiod references with function ↵Amit Kumar Mahapatra via Alsa-devel
call Supporting multi-cs in spi drivers would require the chip_select & cs_gpiod members of struct spi_device to be an array. But changing the type of these members to array would break the spi driver functionality. To make the transition smoother introduced four new APIs to get/set the spi->chip_select & spi->cs_gpiod and replaced all spi->chip_select and spi->cs_gpiod references with get or set API calls. While adding multi-cs support in further patches the chip_select & cs_gpiod members of the spi_device structure would be converted to arrays & the "idx" parameter of the APIs would be used as array index i.e., spi->chip_select[idx] & spi->cs_gpiod[idx] respectively. 2023-03-06spi: mxic: Convert to platform remove callback returning voidUwe Kleine-König
The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. 2022-02-10spi: mxic: Add support for pipelined ECC operationsMiquel Raynal
Some SPI-NAND chips do not have a proper on-die ECC engine providing error correction/detection. This is particularly an issue on embedded devices with limited resources because all the computations must happen in software, unless an external hardware engine is provided. These external engines are new and can be of two categories: external or pipelined. Macronix is providing both, the former being already supported. The second, however, is very SoC implementation dependent and must be instantiated by the SPI host controller directly. An entire subsystem has been contributed to support these engines which makes the insertion into another subsystem such as SPI quite straightforward without the need for a lot of specific functions. By working with external hardware ECC engines, we figured out that Under certain circumstances, it is needed for the SPI controller to check INT_TX_EMPTY and INT_RX_NOT_EMPTY in both receive and transmit path (not only in the receive path). 2020-07-14spi: spi-mem: allow specifying a command's extensionPratyush Yadav
In xSPI mode, flashes expect 2-byte opcodes. The second byte is called the "command extension". There can be 3 types of extensions in xSPI: repeat, invert, and hex. When the extension type is "repeat", the same opcode is sent twice. When it is "invert", the second byte is the inverse of the opcode. When it is "hex" an additional opcode byte based is sent with the command whose value can be anything. So, make opcode a 16-bit value and add a 'nbytes', similar to how multiple address widths are handled. Some places use sizeof(op->cmd.opcode). Replace them with op->cmd.nbytes The spi-mxic and spi-zynq-qspi drivers directly use op->cmd.opcode as a buffer. Now that opcode is a 2-byte field, this can result in different behaviour depending on if the machine is little endian or big endian. Extract the opcode in a local 1-byte variable and use that as the buffer instead. Both these drivers would reject multi-byte opcodes in their supports_op() hook anyway, so we only need to worry about single-byte opcodes for now. The above two changes are put in this commit to keep the series bisectable.
