2024-02-05drm/bridge: imx: add driver for HDMI TX Parallel Video InterfaceLucas Stach
This IP block is found in the HDMI subsystem of the i.MX8MP SoC. It has a full timing generator and can switch between different video sources. On the i.MX8MP however the only supported source is the LCDIF. The block just needs to be powered up and told about the polarity of the video sync signals to act in bypass mode. 2024-01-26drm: bridge: samsung-dsim: Don't use FORCE_STOP_STATEMichael Walle
The FORCE_STOP_STATE bit is unsuitable to force the DSI link into LP-11 mode. It seems the bridge internally queues DSI packets and when the FORCE_STOP_STATE bit is cleared, they are sent in close succession without any useful timing (this also means that the DSI lanes won't go into LP-11 mode). The length of this gibberish varies between 1ms and 5ms. This sometimes breaks an attached bridge (TI SN65DSI84 in this case). In our case, the bridge will fail in about 1 per 500 reboots. The FORCE_STOP_STATE handling was introduced to have the DSI lanes in LP-11 state during the .pre_enable phase. But as it turns out, none of this is needed at all. Between samsung_dsim_init() and samsung_dsim_set_display_enable() the lanes are already in LP-11 mode. The code as it was before commit 20c827683de0 ("drm: bridge: samsung-dsim: Fix init during host transfer") and 0c14d3130654 ("drm: bridge: samsung-dsim: Fix i.MX8M enable flow to meet spec") was correct in this regard. This patch basically reverts both commits. It was tested on an i.MX8M SoC with an SN65DSI84 bridge. The signals were probed and the DSI packets were decoded during initialization and link start-up. After this patch the first DSI packet on the link is a VSYNC packet and the timing is correct. Command mode between .pre_enable and .enable was also briefly tested by a quick hack. There was no DSI link partner which would have responded, but it was made sure the DSI packet was send on the link. As a side note, the command mode seems to just work in HS mode. I couldn't find that the bridge will handle commands in LP mode. However, the sii902x driver has not set up the i2c part yet, leading to the crash. Fix this by moving the drm_bridge_add() to the end of the sii902x_init(), which is also at the very end of sii902x_probe(). The synaptics-r63353 (panel-bridge) can only be configured in command mode. So, samsung-dsim (bridge) must not be in display mode during the prepare()/unprepare() of the panel-bridge. Setting the "pre_enable_prev_first" flag to true allows the prepare() of the panel-bridge to be called between the pre_enabled() and enabled() of the bridge. So, the bridge can enter display mode only in the enabled(). The unprepare() of the panel-bridge is instead called between the disable() and post_disable() of the bridge. 2024-01-18drm: remove I2C_CLASS_DDC supportHeiner Kallweit
After removal of the legacy EEPROM driver and I2C_CLASS_DDC support in olpc_dcon there's no i2c client driver left supporting I2C_CLASS_DDC. Class-based device auto-detection is a legacy mechanism and shouldn't be used in new code. So we can remove this class completely now. Now the sii902x bridge is ready from DRM's perspective. - sii902x calls sii902x_audio_codec_init() and platform_device_register_data() - The registration of the audio platform device causes probing of the deferred devices. - tidss probes, which eventually causes sii902x_bridge_get_edid() to be called. - sii902x_bridge_get_edid() tries to use the i2c to read the edid. However, the sii902x driver has not set up the i2c part yet, leading to the crash. Fix this by moving the drm_bridge_add() to the end of the sii902x_init(), which is also at the very end of sii902x_probe(). 2024-01-09drm/bridge: Fixed a DP link training bugxiazhengqiao
To have better compatibility for DP sink, there is a retry mechanism for the link training process to switch between different training process. The original driver code doesn't reset the retry counter when training state is pass. If the system triggers link training over 3 times, there will be a chance to causes the driver to use the wrong training method and return a training fail result. To Fix this, we reset the retry counter when training state is pass each time. 2024-01-08drm/bridge: parade-ps8640: Wait for HPD when doing an AUX transferDouglas Anderson
Unlike what is claimed in commit f5aa7d46b0ee ("drm/bridge: parade-ps8640: Provide wait_hpd_asserted() in struct drm_dp_aux"), if someone manually tries to do an AUX transfer (like via `i2cdump ${bus} 0x50 i`) while the panel is off we don't just get a simple transfer error. Instead, the whole ps8640 gets thrown for a loop and goes into a bad state. Let's put the function to wait for the HPD (and the magical 50 ms after first reset) back in when we're doing an AUX transfer. This shouldn't actually make things much slower (assuming the panel is on) because we should immediately poll and see the HPD high. Mostly this is just an extra i2c transfer to the bridge. After commit 26195af57798 ("drm/bridge: ps8640: Drop the ability of ps8640 to fetch the EDID"), I got an error compiling: error: comparison of distinct pointer types ('typeof (len) *' (aka 'unsigned int *') and 'typeof (msg->size) *' (aka 'unsigned long *')) [-Werror,-Wcompare-distinct-pointer-types] Fix it by declaring the `len` as size_t. The above error only shows up on downstream kernels without commit d03eba99f5bf ("minmax: allow min()/max()/clamp() if the arguments have the same signedness."), but since commit 26195af57798 ("drm/bridge: ps8640: Drop the ability of ps8640 to fetch the EDID") is a "Fix" that will likely be backported it seems nice to make it easy. ...plus it's more correct to declare `len` as size_t anyway. For aux reads, the value `msg->size` indicates the size of the buffer provided by `msg->buffer`. We should never in any circumstances write more bytes to the buffer since it may overflow the buffer. In the ti-sn65dsi86 driver there is one code path that reads the transfer length from hardware. Even though it's never been seen to be a problem, we should make extra sure that the hardware isn't increasing the length since doing so would cause us to overrun the buffer. While testing, I happened to notice a random crash that looked like: Kernel panic - not syncing: stack-protector: Kernel stack is corrupted in: drm_dp_dpcd_probe+0x120/0x120 Analysis of drm_dp_dpcd_probe() shows that we pass in a 1-byte buffer (allocated on the stack) to the aux->transfer() function. Presumably if the aux->transfer() writes more than one byte to this buffer then we're in a bad shape. Dropping into kgdb, I noticed that "aux->transfer" pointed at ps8640_aux_transfer(). Reading through ps8640_aux_transfer(), I can see that there are cases where it could write more bytes to msg->buffer than were specified by msg->size. This could happen if the hardware reported back something bogus to us. Let's fix this so we never write more than msg->size bytes. We'll still read all the bytes from the hardware just in case the hardware requires it since the aux transfer data comes through an auto-incrementing register. NOTE: I have no actual way to reproduce this issue but it seems likely this is what was happening in the crash I looked at. 2023-12-11drm/bridge: ti-sn65dsi86: Associate PWM device to auxiliary deviceUwe Kleine-König
It's the ti_sn65dsi86.pwm auxiliary driver that creates the pwmchip, so let the auxiliary device be the parent of the pwm device. Note that getting a reference to the ti-sn65dsi86's pwm using pwm_get() isn't affected by this change as ti_sn65dsi86_add_aux_device() sets the auxiliary device's of_node to that of the main device. Also change PM runtime tracking and diagnostic messages to use that one. After enabling runtime PM operation for the auxiliary device, all works as expected as parent devices are handled just fine. The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it was merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. Soon the implicit includes are going to be removed. of_device.h isn't needed, but of.h is for of_node_put(). The i2c_master_send/recv() functions return negative error codes or they return "len" on success. So the error handling here can be written as just normal checks for "if (ret < 0) return ret;". No need to complicate things. Btw, in this code the "len" parameter can never be zero, but even if it were, then I feel like this would still be the best way to write it.
