2023-09-30drm/i915/gem: Make i915_gem_shrinker multi-gt awareJonathan Cavitt
Where applicable, use for_each_gt instead of to_gt in the i915_gem_shrinker functions to make them apply to more than just the primary GT. Specifically, this ensure i915_gem_shrink_all retires all requests across all GTs, and this makes i915_gem_shrinker_vmap unmap VMAs from all GTs. v2: Pass correct GT to intel_gt_retire_requests(Andrzej). v3: Remove unnecessary braces(Andi) v4: Undo v3 to fix build failure. 2023-09-26i915: Limit the length of an sg list to the requested lengthMatthew Wilcox (Oracle)
The folio conversion changed the behaviour of shmem_sg_alloc_table() to put the entire length of the last folio into the sg list, even if the sg list should have been shorter. gen8_ggtt_insert_entries() relied on the list being the right length and would overrun the end of the page tables. 2023-09-20drm/i915: refactor deprecated strncpyJustin Stitt
`strncpy` is deprecated for use on NUL-terminated destination strings [1]. We should prefer more robust and less ambiguous string interfaces. A suitable replacement is `strscpy` [2] due to the fact that it guarantees NUL-termination on the destination buffer without unnecessarily NUL-padding. `ctx` is zero allocated and as such strncpy's NUL-padding behavior was strictly a performance hit which is now resolved. 2023-09-06drm/i915: add trailing newlines to msgsJim Cromie
By at least strong convention, a print-buffer's trailing newline says "message complete, send it". The exception (no TNL, followed by a call to pr_cont) proves the general rule. Most DRM.debug calls already comport with this: 207 DRM_DEV_DEBUG, 1288 drm_dbg. Clean up the remainders, in maintainer sized chunks. No functional changes. 2023-08-31drm/i915: add minimal i915_gem_object_frontbuffer.hJani Nikula
Split out frontbuffer related declarations and static inlines from gem/i915_gem_object.h into new gem/i915_gem_object_frontbuffer.h. The main goal is to reduce header interdependencies. With gem/i915_gem_object.h including display/intel_frontbuffer.h, modification of the latter causes a whopping 300+ objects to be rebuilt, while many of the source files actually needing it aren't explicitly including it at all. After the change, only 21 objects depend on display/intel_frontbuffer.h, directly or indirectly. 2023-08-21drm/i915: Replace several IS_METEORLAKE with proper IP version checksMatt Roper
Many of the IS_METEORLAKE conditions throughout the driver are supposed to be checks for Xe_LPG and/or Xe_LPM+ IP, not for the MTL platform specifically. Update those checks to ensure that the code will still operate properly if/when these IP versions show up on future platforms. v2: - Update two more conditions (one for pg_enable, one for MTL HuC compatibility). v3: - Don't change GuC/HuC compatibility check, which sounds like it truly is specific to the MTL platform. 2023-08-17drm/i915/selftest: Simplify Y-major tiling in blit selftestMatt Roper
Rather than picking random tiling formats from a pool that contains both TileY and Tile4 and then trying to replace one with the other depending on the platform, it's simpler to just use a single enum value that represents whatever the platform-appropriate Y-major tiling format is (i.e., Tile4 on Xe_HP and beyond, legacy TileY on earlier platforms). Don't assert held dma-buf reservation lock on memory mapping of exported buffer. We're going to change dma-buf mmap() locking policy such that exporters will have to handle the lock. The problem is solved by moving the lock down to exporters. This patch prepares DRM drivers for the locking policy update. 2023-06-19mm: ptep_get() conversionRyan Roberts
Convert all instances of direct pte_t* dereferencing to instead use ptep_get() helper. This means that by default, the accesses change from a C dereference to a READ_ONCE(). This is technically the correct thing to do since where pgtables are modified by HW (for access/dirty) they are volatile and therefore we should always ensure READ_ONCE() semantics. But more importantly, by always using the helper, it can be overridden by the architecture to fully encapsulate the contents of the pte. Arch code is deliberately not converted, as the arch code knows best. It is intended that arch code (arm64) will override the default with its own implementation that can (e.g.) hide certain bits from the core code, or determine young/dirty status by mixing in state from another source. Conversion was done using Coccinelle: ---- // $ make coccicheck \ // COCCI=ptepget.cocci \ // SPFLAGS="--include-headers" \ // MODE=patch virtual patch @ depends on patch @ pte_t *v; @@ - *v + ptep_get(v) ---- Then reviewed and hand-edited to avoid multiple unnecessary calls to ptep_get(), instead opting to store the result of a single call in a variable, where it is correct to do so. This aims to negate any cost of READ_ONCE() and will benefit arch-overrides that may be more complex. Included is a fix for an issue in an earlier version of this patch that was pointed out by kernel test robot. The issue arose because config MMU=n elides definition of the ptep helper functions, including ptep_get(). HUGETLB_PAGE=n configs still define a simple huge_ptep_clear_flush() for linking purposes, which dereferences the ptep. So when both configs are disabled, this caused a build error because ptep_get() is not defined. Fix by continuing to do a direct dereference when MMU=n. This is safe because for this config the arch code cannot be trying to virtualize the ptes because none of the ptep helpers are defined. 2023-06-10drm/i915: Fix a VMA UAF for multi-gt platformNirmoy Das
Ensure correct handling of closed VMAs on multi-gt platforms to prevent Use-After-Free. Currently, when GT0 goes idle, closed VMAs that are exclusively added to GT0's closed_vma link (gt->closed_vma) and subsequently freed by i915_vma_parked(), which assumes the entire GPU is idle. However, on platforms with multiple GTs, such as MTL, GT1 may remain active while GT0 is idle. This causes GT0 to mistakenly consider the closed VMAs in its closed_vma list as unnecessary, potentially leading to Use-After-Free issues if a job for GT1 attempts to access a freed VMA. Although we do take a wakeref for GT0 but it happens later, after evaluating VMAs. To mitigate this, it is necessary to hold a GT0 wakeref early. v2: Use gt id to detect multi-tile(Andi) Fix the incorrect error path. v3: Add more comment(Andi) Use the new gt var when possible(Andrzej) Cc: Joonas Lahtinen <joonas.lahtinen@linux.intel.com> Cc: Rodrigo Vivi <rodrigo.vivi@intel.com> Cc: Tvrtko Ursulin <tvrtko.ursulin@linux.intel.com> Cc: Thomas Hellström <thomas.hellstrom@linux.intel.com> Cc: Chris Wilson <chris.p.wilson@intel.com> Cc: Andi Shyti <andi.shyti@linux.intel.com> Cc: Andrzej Hajda <andrzej.hajda@intel.com> Cc: Sushma Venkatesh Reddy <sushma.venkatesh.reddy@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Nirmoy Das <nirmoy.das@intel.com> Tested-by: Andi Shyti <andi.shyti@linux.intel.com> Reviewed-by: Andi Shyti <andi.shyti@linux.intel.com> Reviewed-by: Andrzej Hajda <andrzej.hajda@intel.com> Tested-by: Sushma Venkatesh Reddy <sushma.venkatesh.reddy@intel.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20230608110103.777594-1-andi.shyti@linux.intel.com

2023-06-07drm/i915: Allow user to set cache at BO creationFei Yang
To comply with the design that buffer objects shall have immutable cache setting through out their life cycle, {set, get}_caching ioctl's are no longer supported from MTL onward. With that change caching policy can only be set at object creation time. The current code applies a default (platform dependent) cache setting for all objects. However this is not optimal for performance tuning. The patch extends the existing gem_create uAPI to let user set PAT index for the object at creation time. The new extension is platform independent, so UMD's can switch to using this extension for older platforms as well, while {set, get}_caching are still supported on these legacy paltforms for compatibility reason. However, since PAT index was not clearly defined for platforms prior to GEN12 (TGL), so we are limiting this externsion to GEN12+ platforms only. See ext_set_pat() in for the implementation details. The documentation related to the PAT/MOCS tables is currently available for Tiger Lake here: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/docs/graphics-for-linux/developer-reference/1-0/tiger-lake.html The documentation for other platforms is currently being updated. 2023-05-30drm/i915/gem: Use large rings for compute contextsChris Wilson
Allow compute contexts to submit the maximal amount of work without blocking userspace. The original size for user LRC ring's (SZ_16K) was chosen to minimise memory consumption, without being so small as to frequently stall in the middle of workloads. With the main consumers being GL / media pipelines of 2 or 3 batches per frame, we want to support ~10 requests in flight to allow for the application to control throttling without stalling within a frame. v2: - cover with else part Signed-off-by: Chris Wilson <chris.p.wilson@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Tejas Upadhyay <tejas.upadhyay@intel.com> Reviewed-by: Andi Shyti <andi.shyti@linux.intel.com> Signed-off-by: Andi Shyti <andi.shyti@linux.intel.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20230517135754.1110291-1-tejas.upadhyay@intel.com

2023-05-23drm/i915/mtl: end support for set caching ioctlFei Yang
The design is to keep Buffer Object's caching policy immutable through out its life cycle. This patch ends the support for set caching ioctl from MTL onward. While doing that we also set BO's to be 1-way coherent at creation time because GPU is no longer automatically snooping CPU cache. For userspace components needing to fine tune the caching policy for BO's, a follow up patch will extend the GEM_CREATE uAPI to allow them specify caching mode at BO creation time.
