2024-07-05drm/xe/bmg: implement Wa_16023588340Matthew Auld
This involves enabling l2 caching of host side memory access to VRAM through the CPU BAR. The main fallout here is with display since VRAM writes from CPU can now be cached in GPU l2, and display is never coherent with caches, so needs various manual flushing. In the case of fbc we disable it due to complications in getting this to work correctly (in a later patch). This WA requires us to limit media GT frequency requests to a certain cap value during driver load. Freq limits are restored after load completes, so perf will not be affected during normal operations. During normal driver operation, this WA requires dummy writes to media offset 0x380D8C after every ~63 GGTT writes. This will ensure completion of the LMEM writes originating from Gunit. During driver unload(before FLR), the WA requires that we set requested frequency to the cap value again. v3: Do not use WA number in function name. Call WA wrapper from xe_device. 2024-06-24drm/i915: Introduce the plane->min_alignment() vfuncVille Syrjälä
Different hardware generations have different scanout alignment requirements. Introduce a new vfunc that will allow us to make that distinction without horrible if-ladders. For now we directly plug in the existing intel_surf_alignment() and intel_cursor_alignment() functions. For fbdev we (temporarily) introduce intel_fbdev_min_alignment() that simply queries the alignment from the primary plane of the first crtc. Use the suspend encoders helper which is also used by the i915 driver. This fixes an issue in the xe driver where the encoder suspend_complete() hook is not called and was an overlook when this hook was added in commit b61fad5f7e5d ("drm/i915/tc: Call TypeC port flush_work/cleanup without modeset locks held") for i915, but not added to the xe driver (which was still in a separate source tree at the above point). v2: Fix checkpatch warn in commit log. 2024-05-23drm/xe: Prepare display for D3ColdRodrigo Vivi
Prepare power-well and DC handling for a full power lost during D3Cold, then sanitize it upon D3->D0. Otherwise we get a bunch of state mismatch. Ideally we could leave DC9 enabled and wouldn't need to move DC9->DC0 on every runtime resume, however, the disable_DC is part of the power-well checks and intrinsic to the dc_off power well. In the future that can be detangled so we can have even bigger power savings. But for now, let's focus on getting a D3Cold, which saves much more power by itself. v2: create new functions to avoid full-suspend-resume path, which would result in a deadlock between xe_gem_fault and the modeset-ioctl. v3: Only avoid the full modeset to avoid the race, for a more robust suspend-resume. 2024-05-10drm/xe: Nuke xe's copy of intel_fbdev_fb.hVille Syrjälä
For some reason xe and i915 each have an identical (fortunately) copy of intel_fbdev_fb.h. The xe copy actually only gets included by xe's intel_fbdev_fb.c, and the i915 copy by everyone else, include intel_fbdev.c which is the actual caller of the functions declared in the header. This means the xe and i915 headers are free to define/declare completely incompatible things and the build would still succeed as long as the symbol names match. That is not a good thing, so let's nuke xe's copy of the header so that everyone will use the same header, and be forced to agree on the same API/ABI. 2024-04-25drm/{i915, xe}: Implement fbdev emulation as in-kernel clientThomas Zimmermann
Replace all code that initializes or releases fbdev emulation throughout the driver. Instead initialize the fbdev client by a single call to intel_fbdev_setup() after i915 has registered its DRM device. Just like similar code in other drivers, i915 fbdev emulation now acts like a regular DRM client. Do the same for xe. The fbdev client setup consists of the initial preparation and the hot-plugging of the display. The latter creates the fbdev device and sets up the fbdev framebuffer. The setup performs display hot-plugging once. If no display can be detected, DRM probe helpers re-run the detection on each hotplug event. A call to drm_client_dev_unregister() releases all in-kernel clients automatically. No further action is required within i915. If the fbdev framebuffer has been fully set up, struct fb_ops.fb_destroy implements the release. For partially initialized emulation, the fbdev client reverts the initial setup. Move code from ad-hoc fbdev callbacks into DRM client functions and remove the old callbacks. The functions instruct the client to poll for changed output or restore the display. The DRM core calls both, the old callbacks and the new client helpers, from the same places. The new functions perform the same operation as before, so there's no change in functionality. Fox xe, remove xe_display_last_close(), which restored the fbdev display. Let's simply convert all the current callers towards direct xe_pm_runtime access and remove this extra layer of indirection. The flags stored in the BO grew over time without following much a naming pattern. First of all, get rid of the _BIT suffix that was banned from everywhere else due to the guideline in drivers/gpu/drm/i915/i915_reg.h that xe kind of follows: Define bits using ``REG_BIT(N)``. Do **not** add ``_BIT`` suffix to the name. Here the flags aren't for a register, but it's good practice to keep it consistent. Second divergence on names is the use or not of "CREATE". This is because most of the flags are passed to xe_bo_create*() family of functions, changing its behavior. However, since the flags are also stored in the bo itself and checked elsewhere in the code, it seems better to just omit the CREATE part. 2024-02-07drm/i915: Try to relocate the BIOS fb to the start of ggttVille Syrjälä
On MTL the GOP (for whatever reason) likes to bind its framebuffer high up in the ggtt address space. This can conflict with whatever ggtt_reserve_guc_top() is trying to do, and the result is that ggtt_reserve_guc_top() fails and then we proceed to explode when trying to tear down the driver. Thus far I haven't analyzed what causes the actual fireworks, but it's not super important as even if it didn't explode we'd still fail the driver load and the user would be left with an unusable GPU. To remedy this (without having to figure out exactly what ggtt_reserve_guc_top() is trying to achieve) we can attempt to relocate the BIOS framebuffer to a lower ggtt address. We can do this at this early point in driver init because nothing else is supposed to be clobbering the ggtt yet. So we simply change where in the ggtt we pin the vma, the original PTEs will be left as is, and the new PTEs will get written with the same dma addresses. The plane will keep on scanning out from the original PTEs until we are done with the whole process, and at that point we rewrite the plane's surface address register to point at the new ggtt address. Since we don't need a specific ggtt address for the plane (apart from needing it to land in the mappable region for normal stolen objects) we'll just try to pin it without a fixed offset first. It should end up at the lowest available address (which really should be 0 at this point in the driver init). If that fails we'll fall back to just pinning it exactly to the origianal address. Currently we assume that we bind the BIOS fb exactly into the same ggtt address where the BIOS left it. That is about to change, and in order to keep intel_reuse_initial_plane_obj() working as intended we need to compare the original ggtt offset (called 'base' here) as opposed to the actual vma ggtt offset we selected. Otherwise the first plane could change the ggtt offset, and then subsequent planes would no longer notice that they are in fact using the same ggtt offset that the first plane was already using. Thus the reuse check will fail and we proceed to turn off these subsequent planes.
