2025-03-20drm/bridge: Add encoder parameter to drm_bridge_funcs.attachMaxime Ripard
The drm_bridge structure contains an encoder pointer that is widely used by bridge drivers. This pattern is largely documented as deprecated in other KMS entities for atomic drivers. However, one of the main use of that pointer is done in attach to just call drm_bridge_attach on the next bridge to add it to the bridge list. While this dereferences the bridge->encoder pointer, it's effectively the same encoder the bridge was being attached to. We can make it more explicit by adding the encoder the bridge is attached to to the list of attach parameters. This also removes the need to dereference bridge->encoder in most drivers. 2024-12-01Get rid of 'remove_new' relic from platform driver structLinus Torvalds
The continual trickle of small conversion patches is grating on me, and is really not helping. Just get rid of the 'remove_new' member function, which is just an alias for the plain 'remove', and had a comment to that effect: /* * .remove_new() is a relic from a prototype conversion of .remove(). * New drivers are supposed to implement .remove(). Once all drivers are * converted to not use .remove_new any more, it will be dropped. */ This was just a tree-wide 'sed' script that replaced '.remove_new' with '.remove', with some care taken to turn a subsequent tab into two tabs to make things line up. I did do some minimal manual whitespace adjustment for places that used spaces to line things up. Then I just removed the old (sic) .remove_new member function, and this is the end result. 2024-09-03drm/imx: parallel-display: drop edid override supportDmitry Baryshkov
None of the in-kernel DT files ever used edid override with the fsl-imx-drm driver. In case the EDID needs to be specified manually, DRM core allows one to either override it via the debugfs or to load it via request_firmware by using DRM_LOAD_EDID_FIRMWARE. In all other cases EDID and/or modes are to be provided as a part of the panel driver. Drop support for the edid property. This reverts commit c0e0f139354c01e0213204e4a96e7076e5a3e396, as helper code should always be selected by the driver that needs it, for the convenience of the final user configuring a kernel. The user who configures a kernel should not need to know which helpers are needed for the driver he is interested in. Making a driver depend on helper code means that the user needs to know which helpers to enable first, which is very user-unfriendly. 2023-09-13drm/imx/ipuv3: Call drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() at shutdown/unbind timeDouglas Anderson
Based on grepping through the source code this driver appears to be missing a call to drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() at system shutdown time and at driver unbind time. Among other things, this means that if a panel is in use that it won't be cleanly powered off at system shutdown time. The fact that we should call drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() in the case of OS shutdown/restart and at driver remove (or unbind) time comes straight out of the kernel doc "driver instance overview" in drm_drv.c. A few notes about this fix: - When adding drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() to the unbind path, I added it after drm_kms_helper_poll_fini() since that's when other drivers seemed to have it. - Technically with a previous patch, ("drm/atomic-helper: drm_atomic_helper_shutdown(NULL) should be a noop"), we don't actually need to check to see if our "drm" pointer is NULL before calling drm_atomic_helper_shutdown(). We'll leave the "if" test in, though, so that this patch can land without any dependencies. It could potentially be removed later. - This patch also makes sure to set the drvdata to NULL in the case of bind errors to make sure that shutdown can't access freed data. 2023-09-09drm/imx/ipuv3: Convert to platform remove callback returning voidUwe Kleine-König
The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Trivially convert the ipuv3 imx drivers from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. 2023-07-28drm/imx/ipuv3: Fix front porch adjustment upon hactive aligningAlexander Stein
When hactive is not aligned to 8 pixels, it is aligned accordingly and hfront porch needs to be reduced the same amount. Unfortunately the front porch is set to the difference rather than reducing it. There are some Samsung TVs which can't cope with a front porch of instead of 70. Some of these dependencies used to be sensible when only a small part of the platforms supported by ARCH=arm could be compiled together in a single kernel image. Nowadays ARCH_MULTIPLATFORM is only used as a guard for kernel options incompatible with a multiplatform image.
