Currently, the test result does not differentiate between the cases when either one of the address families are configured or if both the address families are configured. Ideally, the result should report if a particular case was skipped. ./drivers/net/ping.py TAP version 13 1..7 ok 1 ping.test_default_v4 # SKIP Test requires IPv4 connectivity ok 2 ping.test_default_v6 ok 3 ping.test_xdp_generic_sb ok 4 ping.test_xdp_generic_mb ok 5 ping.test_xdp_native_sb ok 6 ping.test_xdp_native_mb ok 7 ping.test_xdp_offload # SKIP device does not support offloaded XDP Totals: pass:5 fail:0 xfail:0 xpass:0 skip:2 error:0 Fixes: 75cc19c8ff89 ("selftests: drv-net: add xdp cases for ping.py") Signed-off-by: Mohsin Bashir <mohsin.bashr@gmail.com> Reviewed-by: David Wei <dw@davidwei.uk> Link: https://patch.msgid.link/20250503013518.1722913-4-mohsin.bashr@gmail.com Signed-off-by: Jakub Kicinski <kuba@kernel.org>

On a system with either of the ipv4 or ipv6 information missing, tests are currently skipped. Ideally, the test should run as long as at least one address family is present. This patch make test run whenever possible. The `get_interface_info` call has ip version hard-coded which leads to failures on an IPV6 system. The NetDrvEnv class already gathers information about remote interface, so instead of fixing the local implementation switch to using cfg.remote_ifname. 2025-03-14selftests: drv-net: fix merge conflicts resolutionMatthieu Baerts (NGI0)
After the recent merge between net-next and net, I got some conflicts on my side because the merge resolution was different from Stephen's one [1] I applied on my side in the MPTCP tree. It looks like the code that is now in net-next is using the old way to retrieve the local and remote addresses. This patch is now using the new way, like what was in Stephen's email [1]. Also, in get_interface_info(), there were no conflicts in this area, because that was new code from 'net', but a small adaptation was needed there as well to get the remote address. 2025-03-10selftests: drv-net: add xdp cases for ping.pyTaehee Yoo
ping.py has 3 cases, test_v4, test_v6 and test_tcp. But these cases are not executed on the XDP environment. So, it adds XDP environment, existing tests(test_v4, test_v6, and test_tcp) are executed too on the below XDP environment. So, it adds XDP cases. 1. xdp-generic + single-buffer 2. xdp-generic + multi-buffer 3. xdp-native + single-buffer 4. xdp-native + multi-buffer 5. xdp-offload It also makes test_{v4 | v6 | tcp} sending large size packets. this may help to check whether multi-buffer is working or not. Note that the physical interface may be down and then up when xdp is attached or detached. This takes some period to activate traffic. So sleep(10) is added if the test interface is the physical interface. netdevsim and veth type interfaces skip sleep. 2025-02-19selftests: drv-net: store addresses in dict indexed by ipverJakub Kicinski
Looks like more and more tests want to iterate over IP version, run the same test over ipv4 and ipv6. The current naming of members in the env class makes it a bit awkward, we have separate members for ipv4 and ipv6 parameters. Store the parameters inside dicts, so that tests can easily index them with ip version. 2024-04-23selftests: drv-net: add a TCP ping test case (and useful helpers)Jakub Kicinski
More complex tests often have to spawn a background process, like a server which will respond to requests or tcpdump. Add support for creating such processes using the with keyword: with bkg("my-daemon", ..): # my-daemon is alive in this block My initial thought was to add this support to cmd() directly but it runs the command in the constructor, so by the time we __enter__ it's too late to make sure we used "background=True". Second useful helper transplanted from net_helper.sh is wait_port_listen(). The test itself uses socat, which insists on v6 addresses being wrapped in [], it's not the only command which requires this format, so add the wrapped address to env. The hope is to save test code from checking if address is v6. 2024-04-23selftests: net: support matching cases by name prefixJakub Kicinski
While writing tests with a lot more cases I got tired of having to jump back and forth to add the name of the test to the ksft_run() list. Most unittest frameworks do some name matching, e.g. assume that functions with names starting with test_ are test cases. Support similar flow in ksft_run(). Let the author list the desired prefixes. globals() need to be passed explicitly, IDK how to work around that.
