2025-05-28selftests/tc-testing: Add a test for HFSC eltree double add with reentrant ↵Pedro Tammela
enqueue behaviour on netem Reproduce the UAF scenario where netem is a child of HFSC and HFSC is configured to use the eltree. In such case, this TDC test would cause the HFSC class to be added to the eltree twice resulting in a UAF. 2025-05-22selftests/tc-testing: Add an HFSC qlen accounting testCong Wang
This test reproduces a scenario where HFSC queue length and backlog accounting can become inconsistent when a peek operation triggers a dequeue and possible drop before the parent qdisc updates its counters. The test sets up a DRR root qdisc with an HFSC class, netem, and blackhole children, and uses Scapy to inject a packet. It helps to verify that HFSC correctly tracks qlen and backlog even when packets are dropped during peek-induced dequeue. 2025-05-09selftests/tc-testing: Add qdisc limit trimming testsCong Wang
Added new test cases for FQ, FQ_CODEL, FQ_PIE, and HHF qdiscs to verify queue trimming behavior when the qdisc limit is dynamically reduced. Each test injects packets, reduces the qdisc limit, and checks that the new limit is enforced. This is still best effort since timing qdisc backlog is not easy. 2025-04-23selftests/tc-testing: Add test for HFSC queue emptying during peek operationCong Wang
Add a selftest to exercise the condition where qdisc implementations like netem or codel might empty the queue during a peek operation. This tests the defensive code path in HFSC that checks the queue length again after peeking to handle this case. Based on the reproducer from Gerrard, improved by Jamal. 2025-03-19tc-tests: Update tc police action tests for tc buffer size rounding fixes.Jonathan Lennox
Before tc's recent change to fix rounding errors, several tests which specified a burst size of "1m" would translate back to being 1048574 bytes (2b less than 1Mb). sprint_size prints this as "1024Kb". With the tc fix, the burst size is instead correctly reported as 1048576 bytes (precisely 1Mb), which sprint_size prints as "1Mb". This updates the expected output in the tests' matchPattern values to accept either the old or the new output. 2024-05-28net/sched: taprio: extend minimum interval restriction to entire cycle tooVladimir Oltean
It is possible for syzbot to side-step the restriction imposed by the blamed commit in the Fixes: tag, because the taprio UAPI permits a cycle-time different from (and potentially shorter than) the sum of entry intervals. We need one more restriction, which is that the cycle time itself must be larger than N * ETH_ZLEN bit times, where N is the number of schedule entries. This restriction needs to apply regardless of whether the cycle time came from the user or was the implicit, auto-calculated value, so we move the existing "cycle == 0" check outside the "if "(!new->cycle_time)" branch. This way covers both conditions and scenarios. Add a selftest which illustrates the issue triggered by syzbot. 2024-05-28net/sched: taprio: make q->picos_per_byte available to fill_sched_entry()Vladimir Oltean
In commit b5b73b26b3ca ("taprio: Fix allowing too small intervals"), a comparison of user input against length_to_duration(q, ETH_ZLEN) was introduced, to avoid RCU stalls due to frequent hrtimers. The implementation of length_to_duration() depends on q->picos_per_byte being set for the link speed. The blamed commit in the Fixes: tag has moved this too late, so the checks introduced above are ineffective. The q->picos_per_byte is zero at parse_taprio_schedule() -> parse_sched_list() -> parse_sched_entry() -> fill_sched_entry() time. Move the taprio_set_picos_per_byte() call as one of the first things in taprio_change(), before the bulk of the netlink attribute parsing is done. That's because it is needed there. Add a selftest to make sure the issue doesn't get reintroduced. 2023-08-09selftests/tc-testing: verify that a qdisc can be grafted onto a taprio classVladimir Oltean
The reason behind commit af7b29b1deaa ("Revert "net/sched: taprio: make qdisc_leaf() see the per-netdev-queue pfifo child qdiscs"") was that the patch it reverted caused a crash when attaching a CBS shaper to one of the taprio classes. Prevent that from happening again by adding a test case for it, which now passes correctly in both offload and software modes. 2023-08-09selftests/tc-testing: test that taprio can only be attached as rootVladimir Oltean
Check that the "Can only be attached as root qdisc" error message from taprio is effective by attempting to attach it to a class of another taprio qdisc. That operation should fail. In the bug that was squashed by change "net/sched: taprio: try again to report q->qdiscs[] to qdisc_leaf()", grafting a child taprio to a root software taprio would be misinterpreted as a change() to the root taprio. Catch this by looking at whether the base-time of the root taprio has changed to follow the base-time of the child taprio, something which should have absolutely never happened assuming correct semantics. Vinicius points out that looking at "base_time" in the tc qdisc show output is unreliable because user space is in a race with the kernel applying the setting. So we create a helper bash script which waits while there is any pending schedule. 2023-08-09net/sched: taprio: dump class stats for the actual q->qdiscs[]Vladimir Oltean
This makes a difference for the software scheduling mode, where dev_queue->qdisc_sleeping is the same as the taprio root Qdisc itself, but when we're talking about what Qdisc and stats get reported for a traffic class, the root taprio isn't what comes to mind, but q->qdiscs[] is. To understand the difference, I've attempted to send 100 packets in software mode through class 8001:5, and recorded the stats before and after the change. Here is before: $ tc -s class show dev eth0 class taprio 8001:1 root leaf 8001: Sent 9400 bytes 100 pkt (dropped 0, overlimits 0 requeues 0) backlog 0b 0p requeues 0 window_drops 0 class taprio 8001:2 root leaf 8001: Sent 9400 bytes 100 pkt (dropped 0, overlimits 0 requeues 0) backlog 0b 0p requeues 0 window_drops 0 class taprio 8001:3 root leaf 8001: Sent 9400 bytes 100 pkt (dropped 0, overlimits 0 requeues 0) backlog 0b 0p requeues 0 window_drops 0 class taprio 8001:4 root leaf 8001: Sent 9400 bytes 100 pkt (dropped 0, overlimits 0 requeues 0) backlog 0b 0p requeues 0 window_drops 0 class taprio 8001:5 root leaf 8001: Sent 9400 bytes 100 pkt (dropped 0, overlimits 0 requeues 0) backlog 0b 0p requeues 0 window_drops 0 class taprio 8001:6 root leaf 8001: Sent 9400 bytes 100 pkt (dropped 0, overlimits 0 requeues 0) backlog 0b 0p requeues 0 window_drops 0 class taprio 8001:7 root leaf 8001: Sent 9400 bytes 100 pkt (dropped 0, overlimits 0 requeues 0) backlog 0b 0p requeues 0 window_drops 0 class taprio 8001:8 root leaf 8001: Sent 9400 bytes 100 pkt (dropped 0, overlimits 0 requeues 0) backlog 0b 0p requeues 0 window_drops 0 and here is after: class taprio 8001:1 root Sent 0 bytes 0 pkt (dropped 0, overlimits 0 requeues 0) backlog 0b 0p requeues 0 window_drops 0 class taprio 8001:2 root Sent 0 bytes 0 pkt (dropped 0, overlimits 0 requeues 0) backlog 0b 0p requeues 0 window_drops 0 class taprio 8001:3 root Sent 0 bytes 0 pkt (dropped 0, overlimits 0 requeues 0) backlog 0b 0p requeues 0 window_drops 0 class taprio 8001:4 root Sent 0 bytes 0 pkt (dropped 0, overlimits 0 requeues 0) backlog 0b 0p requeues 0 window_drops 0 class taprio 8001:5 root Sent 9400 bytes 100 pkt (dropped 0, overlimits 0 requeues 0) backlog 0b 0p requeues 0 window_drops 0 class taprio 8001:6 root Sent 0 bytes 0 pkt (dropped 0, overlimits 0 requeues 0) backlog 0b 0p requeues 0 window_drops 0 class taprio 8001:7 root Sent 0 bytes 0 pkt (dropped 0, overlimits 0 requeues 0) backlog 0b 0p requeues 0 window_drops 0 class taprio 8001:8 root leaf 800d: Sent 0 bytes 0 pkt (dropped 0, overlimits 0 requeues 0) backlog 0b 0p requeues 0 window_drops 0 The most glaring (and expected) difference is that before, all class stats reported the global stats, whereas now, they really report just the counters for that traffic class. Finally, Pedro Tammela points out that there is a tc selftest which checks specifically which handle do the child Qdiscs corresponding to each class have. That's changing here - taprio no longer reports tcm->tcm_info as the same handle "1:" as itself (the root Qdisc), but 0 (the handle of the default pfifo child Qdiscs). Since iproute2 does not print a child Qdisc handle of 0, adjust the test's expected output. 2023-07-31net/sched: taprio: Limit TCA_TAPRIO_ATTR_SCHED_CYCLE_TIME to INT_MAX.Kuniyuki Iwashima
syzkaller found zero division error [0] in div_s64_rem() called from get_cycle_time_elapsed(), where sched->cycle_time is the divisor. We have tests in parse_taprio_schedule() so that cycle_time will never be 0, and actually cycle_time is not 0 in get_cycle_time_elapsed(). The problem is that the types of divisor are different; cycle_time is s64, but the argument of div_s64_rem() is s32. syzkaller fed this input and 0x100000000 is cast to s32 to be 0. @TCA_TAPRIO_ATTR_SCHED_CYCLE_TIME={0xc, 0x8, 0x100000000} We use s64 for cycle_time to cast it to ktime_t, so let's keep it and set max for cycle_time. While at it, we prevent overflow in setup_txtime() and add another test in parse_taprio_schedule() to check if cycle_time overflows. Also, we add a new tdc test case for this issue.
