2024-03-21wifi: b43: Convert sprintf/snprintf to sysfs_emitLi Zhijian
Per filesystems/sysfs.rst, show() should only use sysfs_emit() or sysfs_emit_at() when formatting the value to be returned to user space. coccinelle complains that there are still a couple of functions that use snprintf(). Convert them to sysfs_emit(). sprintf() will be converted as weel if they have. 2024-02-08wifi: mac80211: simplify non-chanctx driversJohannes Berg
There are still surprisingly many non-chanctx drivers, but in mac80211 that code is a bit awkward. Simplify this by having those drivers assign 'emulated' ops, so that the mac80211 code can be more unified between non-chanctx/chanctx drivers. This cuts the number of places caring about it by about 15, which are scattered across - now they're fewer and no longer in the channel context handling. 2024-01-10wifi: b43: Disable QoS for bcm4331Rahul Rameshbabu
bcm4331 seems to not function correctly with QoS support. This may be due to issues with currently available firmware or potentially a device specific issue. When queues that are not of the default "best effort" priority are selected, traffic appears to not transmit out of the hardware while no errors are returned. This behavior is present among all the other priority queues: video, voice, and background. While this can be worked around by setting a kernel parameter, the default behavior is problematic for most users and may be difficult to debug. This patch offers a working out-of-box experience for bcm4331 users. Declaration is '.. c:function:: void ieee80211_tx_status (struct ieee80211_hw *hw, struct sk_buff *skb)'. This is because there's a function named ieee80211_tx_status() and a struct named ieee80211_tx_status. This has been discussed previously but no solution found: https://lore.kernel.org/all/20220521114629.6ee9fc06@coco.lan/ There's also a bug open for three years with no solution in sight: https://github.com/sphinx-doc/sphinx/pull/8313 So I guess we have no other solution than to a workaround this in the code, for example to rename the function to ieee80211_tx_status_skb() to avoid the name conflict. I got the idea for the name from ieee80211_tx_status_noskb() in which the skb is not provided as an argument, instead with ieee80211_tx_status_skb() the skb is provided. Compile tested only. clang warns about an unpacked structure inside of a packed one: drivers/net/wireless/broadcom/b43/b43.h:654:4: error: field data within 'struct b43_iv' is less aligned than 'union (unnamed union at /home/arnd/arm-soc/drivers/net/wireless/broadcom/b43/b43.h:651:2)' and is usually due to 'struct b43_iv' being packed, which can lead to unaligned accesses [-Werror,-Wunaligned-access] The problem here is that the anonymous union has the default alignment from its members, apparently because the original author mixed up the placement of the __packed attribute by placing it next to the struct member rather than the union definition. As the struct itself is also marked as __packed, there is no need to mark its members, so just move the annotation to the inner type instead. As Michael noted, the same problem is present in b43legacy, so change both at the same time. The problem is that "channel" is an unsigned int, when it's less 5 the value of "channel - 5" is not a negative number as one would expect but is very high positive value instead. This means that "start" becomes a very high positive value. The result of that is that we never enter the "for (i = start; i <= end; i++) {" loop. Instead of storing the result from b43legacy_radio_aci_detect() it just uses zero. 2021-05-21b43: don't save dentries for debugfsGreg Kroah-Hartman
There is no need to keep around the dentry pointers for the debugfs files as they will all be automatically removed when the subdir is removed. So save the space and logic involved in keeping them around by just getting rid of them entirely. 2020-05-29b43: Fix connection problem with WPA3Larry Finger
Since the driver was first introduced into the kernel, it has only handled the ciphers associated with WEP, WPA, and WPA2. It fails with WPA3 even though mac80211 can handle those additional ciphers in software, b43 did not report that it could handle them. By setting MFP_CAPABLE using ieee80211_set_hw(), the problem is fixed. With this change, b43 will handle the ciphers it knows in hardware, and let mac80211 handle the others in software. It is not necessary to use the module parameter NOHWCRYPT to turn hardware encryption off. Although this change essentially eliminates that module parameter, I am choosing to keep it for cases where the hardware is broken, and software encryption is required for all ciphers.
